Audience Question: Growing the number of followers
Ahmed asks:
Your experience looks very amazing and inspiring.
I'm still new in Medium. I have over 300 followers and my goal to reach 1k followers this year. Do you think it's realstic?
It's great that you have set a goal for yourself to reach 1K followers on Medium, and it's definitely achievable with consistent, valuable, and engaging content that resonates with your target audience. It's important to remember that growing your followership takes time and effort, but it's definitely worth it in the end.
In my personal experience, I started publishing on Medium in late 2018, and by January 2021, I had written around 30 articles in total and gained 1K followers. By October 2021, I had about 90 articles and reached 2K followers.
However, it's important to remember that the number of followers doesn't always accurately reflect the success of your account. I'm curious to know what 1K followers mean to you, and I would be happy to hear your thoughts.
Many writers on Medium follow others only with the hope that they follow them back. There are also people who spend a lot of time clapping and commenting on other posts (sometimes even without reading the posts) only to get around 10 more followers per day.
Focusing too much on the number of followers can be counterproductive. It's important to focus on creating quality pieces and improving oneself as a content creator.
Best of luck in reaching your goal and staying true to yourself as a writer. Remember, quality over quantity.
