Hey everyone π,
At this time of the year as winter brings its cold and darkness, achieving progress in our plans has the power to enlighten and uplift us.
Toward the end of October, I applied to the Women Techmakers (WTM) Ambassadors program and the result was announced on November 15.
It was a "YES"!
Yes, I became a WTM Ambassador π
At first, it felt a bit strange... Maybe because I never thought about getting such a role one day (before being invited to apply by the #RoadtoGDE team), or because the result was announced faster than I expected.
Anyway, I'm happy about this step and excited to keep inspiring, leading by example, and making a positive impact.
On November 30, we had an amazing Global Onboarding session, which was a great opportunity to connect with each other and get inspired by other members of the #WomenTechmakers Ambassadors community.

Besides this news, I wanted the share with you the following newly published pieces and answer a question from the audience:
How JavaScript Closure Can Make You Sick
If you read one article about closure and scoping in JavaScript, read this one
The first time I heard the word βclosureβ was over a decade ago. Yet till recently, it looked like a βblack holeβ to me.
In the last few months, a publication reached out to me and asked me to write a list of puzzle teaching about JavaScript. I thought maybe it was fate bringing me again with closure. So this time, I decided to own my battle and tackle the issue once and for all. And I did.
In this article, I break down how JavaScript closures could be challenging to understand, especially when they are mixed with the wrong scope, and I clear up the confusion about them.

Audience Question: Freelancing
Andrei asks:
Hey, I'm trying to get into the freelancing industry and I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to get started and any tips you have on interviewing.
Regarding interviewing, there is a post I published in 2020 where I shared tips from my own experiences:Β 22 Tips to Succeed in a Job Interview. You may find it helpful.
And regarding how to get started, I think that the answer depends on the person's background, location, and also network.
I personally started working as a freelancer by chance. At the time, I was a junior software engineer looking for a permanent job, then I found an offer for a freelancer and applied to it with a very low hourly rate, and it worked.
But there is a friend of mine who became a freelancer after about a decade of experience and what helped her, especially to find international clients, was her knowledge, of course, and also her network and connections.
There are companies like Hays, Computer Futures, Gulp, and many others who are often the intermediates (in Germany and other surrounding countries) between freelancers and end-clients. You may find some projects that suit you on their websites and apply for them.
I wish you a great start and continuation!
With very best wishes for the end of the year,
β Rakia
